Project success: Approval For Meridian Square development

23.04.2024 1 min read

Temple is delighted to announce that the Meridian Square development has had its planning application approved.

Temple was appointed by Unite Students to undertake the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) coordination and management.  The tower at Meridian Square, which will have 952 purpose-built student accommodation units, is set to be one of the tallest of its kind in the world. It is another step in Stratford’s development and it will be a centrepiece in its ever-changing skyline. The development has also taken every opportunity to maximise biodiversity, and the proposal also includes a zero carbon approach with the development structure maximised to minimise embodied carbon.

Temple worked with the project team to undertake an EIA and coordinate the preparation of an Environmental Statement (ES) for submission as part of the planning application within the agreed project programme. Despite a few challenges, the experienced EIA team identified and appropriately managed risks (including delays and changes to the design freeze) early on in the project. In addition, a flexible approach from the EIA team enabled us to efficiently manage changes to the design freeze without delay to the required project submission.

The final development is set to be completed in 2028 and the Temple team are excited to see it progress into a sustainable solution for student accommodation.
